Weather

Nuking. 550 closed on the return to Ouray. Strong gusts from the south at times.

Snowpack

Multiple crusts within pack. 30-90cm of storm snow on a hard crust. Localized cracking where the new snow stiffened into slab. Most of the storm snow was unconsolidated.

Avalanche

Triggered a R1D1 on a small convexity near rocks in the storm snow. The avalanche did not run very far due to low angle terrain. Crown was approximately 30 cm deep on the new snow / crust interface. Some loose snow moving on steeper pitches.
