Today was clear and sunny with warm temperatures. Light to moderate winds blew out of the northwest.

Snowpack

A fast moving storm dropped 6 inches of snow in the Red Mountain Pass area Saturday. The depth of the snowpack is variable in the Northern San Juan zone due to southwest to west through northwest winds that accompanied this storm and strong winds we have seen over the last week. Today, the height of snow varied from 1 to 3 feet with the deepest pockets resting near and above treeline on north and northeast facing slopes. Though pockets of new snow up to 12 inches were observed no cracking or collapsing in these fresh pockets of drifted snow. The October facets still linger at the base of our snowpack and our number one concern, but appear to be moist and rounding.
