A surprising amount of new snow sitting on a rain crust above 2400 on Mt Matier created a resistant storm slab with alarming propagation. Observed whoomf and 10 -15 m shooting cracks on a ~ 35 degree north facing slope at 2600 m. Slab depth was up to 40 cm thick.
