Went for a look at South Douglas and got lured up the chute by what seemed like reasonable coverage, lack of recent natural avalanche activity, and the desperation of what has so far been an abysmal start to the season. First rider up the chute remote triggered a size 2 avalanche, likely from moraine at top of climb, or rock island 3/4 the way up. Debris over ran his track on lower portion of slope and accumulated to approximately 2-3m. Poor visibility hampered obs of crown. Snowpack is about 85 cm at the end of the road (1000m). 40 cm of newer, soft snow sits on a weak crust composite about 5 cm thick, which is above a thick supportive crust and dense snow to ground. Snowing 2cm an hour down to 400m by mid afternoon.
