Weather

Broken skies and light to moderate gusty North winds were moving snow with temperatures in the mid 30's. When the sun was out it was intense and the snow wetted out quickly.

Snowpack

On SE slopes we experienced several localized collapses while skiing. A little investigation revealed 12-15" of new snow on a thin melt-freeze crust with wet grains below. Seems a shallow freeze was the culprit of the collapses. NW facing slope still held drier snow though it was quite dense. Not as much wind effect as I would have thought and it felt more like a storm slab than a wind slab near and below treeline. At about 10,000' the snow became much heavier and wetter.
