An absolutely beautiful day I was able to do fieldwork in a sun hoody and no gloves at 12,000ft. Calm and sunny.
Snowpack
On south and southeast facing slopes in the alpine, the snow was moist on top, but liquid was not getting any deeper than the top few cm of snow. There were weak layers in the upper 50cm of both south and southeast snowpacks that were reactive in Extended Column Tests and Propagation Saw tests. On northeast aspects, a weak crust was beginning to lose strength. Below that crust, a layer of faceted snow failed easily in column and extended column tests. Heading down at the end of the day, it seemed like the top 10cm of snow was getting wet BTL on south-facing slope.
