On the final day of our Bonnington Traverse, we witnessed this avalanche as we skinned along the ridge between Territory and Colony Peaks. It had been warm overnight, and this east-facing slope had been in the sun for almost four hours. It appeared to have triggered naturally from a rock band in the middle of the start zone, sliding on a buried weak layer about 60-80cm down. The snow on this aspect was wet and slushy. It was pretty humbling to see such a powerful avalanche at close range.
