Poked around Shames near the dome. Significant wind affect/wind led us to bail on the day's skiing plan and dig a pit on a southwest aspect, 25 degree slope. Air temperature -14. We did two compression tests with consistent results: From the wrist, 3 taps, sudden planar release @ 12cm on surface hoar From the elbow, 3 taps, sudden planar release @ 25 & 30cm on surface hoar From the elbow, 7 taps, sudden planar release @ 45cm on surface hoar We were able to trigger the 45cm layer from a meter away from the pit (by walking/jumping). Happy with our decision not to ski!
