Interesting tour up Begbie shoulder. Rain crust present until ~1700m. Dug pit on E facing slope, at 1800m. CTM 15 - small fracture 10cm below surface CTM 17 - small fracture 25cm below surface Both very resistant to shovel shear CTH 21 - sudden collapse 60cm below surface, clean fracture across column Easy SP failure on shovel shear. Shovel shear remainder of column - with some force SP failed 95cm below surface. Very well preserved slab between 60 and 95 deep. With these results we also performed an ECT to see if these layers would propagate. On 20th tap a fracture propagated halfway across column 30 cm below surface. On 25th tap fracture fully propagated, SP failure. Remaining taps showed no further results. Shovel shear on remainder of column again caused SP failure 95cm below surface.

Going up, debris from avalanche covers section of road where it traverses the gully between the two cut blocks. On ski down, multiple signs of avalanche in the runout from 112 chutes. Plenty of debris, unable to identify start zone, suggested natural trigger during storm cycle.
