A localized hard crust was presumably formed during a period of reverse loading earlier in the week, after which a returning south wind (typical windloading) likely redistributed 10 cm snow into the chute. The start zone was in the chute, ~20 m below ridgeline, triggered by sluff from a skier above. No skiers were caught in the slide. The slab propagated nearly the width of the chute base, and downhill to the chute opening. The slide did not trigger any slab activity on the steep, open face below; debris appeared to run on top of the preexisting surface.
