Northern San Juan

Weather
Light snow during the morning with 4" of new snow. Moderate NW winds caused some blowing snow at Pass level. Both the snowfall and winds eased during the afternoon.
Snowpack
Found a supportable slab with faceted snow on the ground. Failures on these October facets with tests, but no signs of instability- cracking and collapsing on skis during a short tour to treeline. Evidence of widespread wind scouring from recent strong north winds above treeline.
Avalanche
No recent avalanche activity observed. Visibility into alpine terrain was fair.
