Weather

The day felt like full-on winter. Low cloud levels and continued light snowfall kept visibility to a minimum. Northwest winds were light to moderate, higher in the alpine, but weren't aggressively moving snow.

Snowpack

Outside of a small layer of moist facets at the ground, the snowpack is relatively soft and uniform. It's easy to poke your pole to the ground but supportable to about ankle-deep on skis. At higher elevations where temperatures and the ground are colder, the basal facet layer was less consolidated but still not concerning with the lack of a significant slab on top. I did find a thin layer of rime ice, just below the new snow from today, likely formed early this morning with the low cloud level.
