Blue skies south of Leadville, with lingering oragraphic showers persisting around Fremont Pass. Light precipitation for brief periods with little accumulation. Chilly northwest winds were drifting small amounts of reaming snow from the top of the ridge.
Snowpack
2 to 3 inches of new snow fell on a variation of snow surfaces. In protected shady areas, the snow was soft and ski pen was around 6 inches. On slopes that had been warmed from the sun or hardened by the wind, the new snow barely softened the surface below. Near and above treeline evidence of recent wind-loading varied with shifting winds and loading patterns. On north facing slopes, recently formed wind slabs were hard and barely penetrable with ski edges. Easterly slopes showed the most significant signs of wind-drifted snow with linear drifts forming below ridges and sub-ridges.
