At Cumbres Pass, 6-8 inches new snow observed overnight since 1600 hours on 2/6. Strong winds and snowfall previous day. Temp 1 degree F at 0900 hours, approx 10,000 ft. Mostly clear skies, light wind.
Snowpack
6-8" new snow overnight on 12-20" new snow in previous 48 hrs. Strong wind and wind slab on leeward (east) aspects. Collapsing heard in flats. No other signs of instability observed.
Avalanche
While traveling across area below slope, remotely triggered on slope above. Area traveled had slope of approx 12 degrees. Max slope of slide area approx 32 degrees. Debris stopped approx. 50 yards from path travelled. Slab avalanche, appeared to be wind slab, approx. 80 yards wide, traveled 150 feet, crown height 6 ft max. east facing aspect.
