Weather

Snow started with light snow showers around 9 AM. Between 9 AM and 12 PM skies were overcast to broken at times with intermittent snow showers. Strong wind at ridgetop found some snow to transport to lee slopes but nothing significant. Temperature at 11500 ft estimated to be in the upper-twenties.

Snowpack

I traveled on mainly south and southeast aspects that were below, near, and slightly above treeline. These slopes experienced a solid surface re-freeze last night and posed no wet avalanche hazard. The surface crust that formed last night was about an inch thick. Underneath this crust was a mostly frozen upper snowpack. I found some moist faceted snow about 18 inches down but there did not appear to be any free water at this interface.
