Weather
There was moderate 'rolling' snow moving from north to south aspect slopes at 10,600 ft. Convex rolls were building to 18 to 24" thick. Did not get on terrain steep enough to provoke any cracking. It was cold today. Finally felt like February.
Snowpack
7" of new snow which felt slabby. This resting on a couple wafer thin supportable melt freeze crusts which formed during the mid-February thaw. Evidence of the 1-19-2017 rounding surface hoar layer (1-2mm) found on a NW aspect. It seems to be gaining some strength, though 'The Grey Streak' still fairly noticeable in the pit wall, tapping & saw cut tests proved somewhat inconclusive.
