Snowpack

Consistent snow coverage was found above about 8500 ft on northerly slopes. Above 10500 ft east-facing slopes had pockety snow coverage.---The snowpack on north-facing slopes was almost identical to what I found in the Tenmile Range 2 days ago. The snow depth was a little greater at 45 cms but the structure was the same. The weakest snow is underneath a fragile and decomposing crust. This snow is 2 to 3 mm facets and depth hoar. There is also a weak faceted layer above the crust. This crust/facet combination is widespread through the Northern Mountains on northerly slopes.
