Heavy clouds lifted around 11 am. Strong March sun was felt on solar slopes and temperatures were spring-like in the Alpine.
Snowpack
6 inches of new snow was observed in the past 24 hours. The new snow was cold and dry on all slope in the morning, but warmed quickly under clear skies and warm temperatures. No signs on instability were observed on cold high alpine slopes, but avalanche activity was observed on slopes affected by the sun and at lower elevations. We can expect widespread crusts tomorrow morning.
Avalanche
Loose Wet avalanche observed on steep rocky slopes in the afternoon. Avalanches started as as snow fell off rocks, but grew significantly as they traveled downhill.
