Snowpack

Traveled on slopes below treeline facing N-E. Experienced widespread whumphing and cracking. Whumphs would rumble through the valley and upslope. One whumph in a meadow traveled up slope and across 200-300m triggering an entire ridgeline. Snowpack structure consisted of Depth Hoar with 1F to 4F persistent slab softening near the surface, topped off with new snow. Snowpack was fairly supportive while traveling, however with little effort was able to break into depth hoar, resulting in cracking and whumphing. Remote triggered R3D2 size avalanche on 35 degree slope facingin NE on Depth Hoar layer. Triggered this slope from 50m away. Crown was 87cm. Compression test on fracture line showed CT7 SC. Performed ECT on adjacent slope showing ECTP13 SC on Depth Hoar layer.
