Weather

Snow fell December 31st over night into the morning of the 1st. Probably about 8". Noted at Margy's Hut and above Margy's Hut in north facing bowl near Mt. Yeckel.

Snowpack

On the 31st we had a great time skiing facetted surface hoar on the north facing bowl near Mt. Yeckel. On the 1st we noted that the new 8" of snow was not bonding well to the old surface. A lot of wind loading of the new snow as well present in spots.

Avalanche

40 degree + degree slope. North to northeast aspect. Skier triggered. The crown ran maybe 10-20 yards. Looked to be new snow layer sliding on old layer. It ran slowly and maybe for a distance of 30 yards or so as slope angle lowered in degrees pretty quickly. Avalanche noted below snowmobile route/trail to Margy's Hut. Broke just below track on 45 degree slope. Again, looked to be about 8" deep at crown- new snow layer. Crown about 30 yards, Ran whole open slope to trees, maybe 50 yards.
