We witnessed the aftermath of a cornice-triggered slab avalanche which had taken out the skiable exit of Mt Balfour's E face, stepping down to glacier ice. We later ran into a group of two on the Waputik Icefield, who told us that one of them had triggered the cornice the day before, May 1, by stepping in a facet hole while booting the ridge.
