Log Cabin East Face

We were relatively conservative and chose to stay in the treeline because of recent avalache reports and cold NE winds were forecasted to be around 20 to 35km/h. We decided to look for good snow on the Log Cabin East face for good visibility and a bit of sun. It was about -17c but felt like -10c with the sun. A small/quick one meter deep pit revealed about 8 inches of fresh snow on 12 inches of hard faceted snowpack, followed by ~24' of hardened rounded snow. Some surface hoar is burried in the fresh snow at about 4-5inches. At the upper treeline border, the snow is more wind affected and faint scattered drum sound areas can be heard accompanied with wind slab formation. We were fortunate to have found some pretty good skiing in the fresh snow and mostly blue skies. When we left the north wind was blowing harder with a bit more snow transport.
