Noisy pow

Spectacular day above the cloud at Lakit mountain. We went to a shallower part of the region to investigate the snowpack. The surface hoar in the area is around 2cm and still growing! Lets hope it gets rained on before it gets buried ?? might be our only way to avoid a tricky avalanche problem. Riding quality was pretty bad, the best riding was where you could see surface hoar protected from the wind. The wind affected snow was unreactive and just bad riding. We saw no new avalanches, and our pit results were generally good. However the large facets over the Dec crust had us avoiding shallow spots and sticking to slopes we knew had more uniform coverage.

December melt freeze crust down 80 with 3mm facets above. Failed in extended column test but did not propagate across the column. Had a compression test fail suddenly under the Dec MFcr.
