Warm and SUNNY in Coal Creek

In Coal Creek today we were pretty pleased with the access. We were able to stage at the Matheson turn-off and had good snow coverage most of the way with short sections of dirt. We started out around 10:00 and the surface was still firm from a good overnight refreeze. Skies were clear so full sun on the solar facing slopes and the surface snow was getting moist/wet over the melt-freeze crust that formed in Mid March. We found that this crust is holding up to the heat. The sledding and skiing were pretty good once it softened up a bit. It was a great day in the sun and we were back at the truck by 3:00. There were no new avalanches but we suspect that with the continued heat there may be some small wet loose occurring.
