I am not a pro at this so hopefully you can take as much information as possible from this post & pictures; Recent Weather: Approximately 20 cm of new snow fell on Saturday. Wind was strong and sustained throughout the day, with obvious snow transport and wind loading terrains. Snowpack Tests & Structure: Dug a snowpit on Sunday. The upper ~20 cm of recent storm snow appears wind affected and slabby. Compression tests showed failure at ~3 elbow taps, repeated on two separate tests, failing at the interface between the new snow and an underlying crust. Below the new snow is a thick, hard ice/melt-freeze crust (~20 cm). Beneath this crust sits approximately 30 cm of softer, lower-density snow.
