- Moraine Lake to Ohara
On Tuesday July 19th we went from Moraine Lake to Lake Ohara. Parking was 90% full by 6:30am though attendants were actually turning cars away. The day was more overcast and stayed cooler than expected with moderate west wind most of the day. Snow coverage was perfect for this trip given that slopes below Wenkchemna Pass and both sides of Obabin Pass could be negotiated on firm snow. We chose to wear crampons. Still lots of lingering patches of snow on many of the peaks like Eiffel and the west ridge of Temple. The north face of Fay is showing bare ice, though the approach to the west ridge is still looking good and so too is the glacier (see photo below). All lower elevation approaches at Ohara are snow free. Hope this is helpful for those asking about snow conditions in the area. Enjoy the beautiful summer we are having!
