Snowpack
Winds were helping to keep the snow surface dry today. Poking around in the Batchplant avalanche path, I found a snowpack that was on average less than a meter deep. The upper snowpack was moist today, with evidence of water penetrating down to or almost to the basal facets. The basal facets were dry to moist and rounding. Above treeline the snowpack was generally supportable to travel on skis, with the exception being near rocky outcrops. Near treeline the snowpack was still supportive, but with a little bit of effort you could punch your ski tails in a ways.
