Surprisingly fun skiing given presence of surface crust. Lapped the SW aspect of the small ridge lookers right of cabin. No signs of instability where we were, but stayed on the chill slopes anyways. Happy New Year! Quick update from our skin out: The fresh crust we found was present under 15-20cm fresh snow. It was present on N, E, SE aspects as we skinned out around the knoll above the summer trail.

Found the Dec rain crust at 85 cm below surface and another at 115cm. New surface crust formed overnight atop of 5cm loose snow. Below that snow becomes increasingly solid to the first major rain crust. 6 wrist taps caused planar failure at 30cm depth on some small coarse crystals, another planar failure at 40 cm with 4 elbow whacks. Could not cause failure on deeper crusts
