Temps in the single digits F, OVC, S-1, light winds from the S, no blowing snow.
Snowpack
HN24 5-10cm, HS 70-120cm on north side of Red Mtn Pass, W aspect BTL. Christmas slab is strengthening and becoming resistant to pole probing. Boot Pen still to the ground where we travelled. Cracking and collapsing were widespread.
Avalanche
Clouds parted briefly, and I observed an avalanche on the SE face of the W shoulder of T8 above Spirit Gulch. I couldn't discern a crown so I'm not sure of the avalanche type. It came from steep terrain so could be a large Loose Dry, but it looks like it pulled out part of the apron. Hard to tell. D1.5. No other naturals observed in that area when the clouds parted at 10:30 AM. View spanned Spirit Gulch to Full Moon Basin, E aspects.
