Weather

West side Berthoud Pass. High 30's, strong westerly winds, periods of intense sun & intense cloud cover. At and above treeline. Mostly east and north facing.

Snowpack

Snowpack was knee deep in certain areas where it was collecting, and wind scoured to bare rock in others. Quite variable. There was definitely a bit of a crust (maybe an inch thick or less?) on top where wind had affected the top layer. This was more prevalent on east aspects vs north. Sheltered north facing areas had deep, fluffy snow that didn't seem to have any slab on top. As we were leaving, we watched roller balls actively rolling on eastern faces above the 40 road cuts. Strong sun seemed to be warming the snow, causing the rollers. On our last lap, snow was getting a little bit slushy.
