Sunny, temperatures in the teens, wind blowing northeast in 30 mph gusts.
Snowpack
Snowpit was near the foot of the run (see photo) on a NW aspect at 11,200'. Snow depth was 18" and appeared wind-packed, with no discernible weak layers. No photo of the pit itself was taken.
Avalanche
North aspect, 32-degree slope, at 12,250 feet in elevation. A snowboarder was descending when it broke above him and was fortunate that his momentum was carrying him left-to-right, landing him on rocks out of the slide path. His partner was a skier observing from above and was not caught.
