Snowpack
NE aspect, 11,500', 31 degree slope. Punched in to my thighs hiking in in ski boots to a slope that has a talus base. HS in pit from 80-110cm due to talus. See attached approximation snow graph: ~10cm precip particles on a ~3cm melt freeze crust. Rest of it was ~50-60cm 1 finger consolodated snow (probably wind packed) sitting on ~20-40cm rounding facets. ECTP16@1cm Sudden Collapse. Temps earlier in the week were above freezing during the day, below at night, probably started to heal the basal facets, but temps at end of week never got above freezing. Couple other skiiers reported similar results at the base of Little Italy & the Chimney Couloir. Still a winter snowpack, basal facets are starting to round, but not stable & uniform snowpack yet.
