Quick report
Observations from AST 1 Sled Course yesterday... overall very shallow and weak snowpack exists. At 1500m treeline in a sheltered meadow we found average of 60cm snowpack. New snow sits on a small layer of surface hoar in sheltered treeline areas only. The upper pack is completely faceted sugary snow, sitting on the early november raincrust at the base. Exposed treeline and alpine areas were previously heavily wind effected under the arctic airmasss. As of 1600 yesterday, the storm had produced a 3 cm ( yes 3) dump of new snow. Winds were moderate from the west, and temperatures warmed to -2c.
