Snowpack

The snow was very consolidated until half way up the Thomas Lakes Bowl (north facing) when we were suddenly on softer more wintry snow with a little wind crust on top. We worked our way up a bit further to a safer spot to dig a pit and assess the snowpack. Isolated column failed at 7 taps from the elbow. Failed at old snow/new snow interface. Not a large failure but a clear crack exactly at the interface. Skinning on mellow pitch above pit felt a small settle in the pack. On decent we were careful to stay out of the center of the bowl which looked to be wind loaded.
