Weather forecast was spot on for three-day trip to Estin, though winds were much lower than eastward in Vail zone. Above weather info is from Sunday of our stay there, during a mid-tour weather ob. Morning obs were -19C. Precip rate is from afternoon/night of 1/22-23
Snowpack
HS varied from 1.2m to 1.8m at hut, 11,200'. SW-S-SE-E melt-freeze crust present, with significant faceting below it (4cm F layer of faceting), and small .5 facets above it, with 20cm storm snow atop. Where wind-affected it was a soft-slab. In trees and sheltered areas, it was cold smoke; sublime skiing. Limited touring on n-facing terrain, but during the ski out it was deep and light.
