Storm #10 rolling in. Height of Storm (I) = 10 cm (cleared). Height of Snow = 95 cm. Location: Gold Basin Study Plot, La Sal Mountains, 10,000'
Snowpack
Very complicated and variable snow pack in the upper 1/4. At 11,000'(north aspect), wind skins 30 cm down were reactive to a ski, yet yielded CTH Q2 results. Lower 3/4 of snowpack is a mix of facets. South and west aspects had a variable layer of sun crusts, both breakable and supportable dependent on the amount of solar gain. I suspect there is buried surface hoar at lower (<10,600') on north and east aspects Traveled across numerous aspects. Blowing snow from south above tree line.
