Microwaved pow

Today we went to the Microwave snowmobile area. We battled strong southwest winds in exposed location but there was still good snow in sheltered locations. There was lots of snow being transported but we saw no new avalanches. We dug two snow profiles today and found a layer of surface hoar in our pits. This layer is down approximately 35cm and produced sudden planar shears in compression tests as well as propagating results in extended column tests. We will continue to monitor this layer as it may become an issue with additional load.
