Snowpack

Once you crest out of the trees into the alpine, the snowpack is very variable. Snow depths ranged from 100cm to 240cm, depending on where the snow had drifted throughout the season. The meltwater/refreeze was consistent in the pits I dug. Full saturation and refreeze could be seen in the upper persistent weak layers that had plagued us through March. With these locked up, the band of persistent issues probably only exists on high, north-facing slopes that get hot through last week's warmup.
