Connaught Creek December 20-22 we rode SE aspects <2150m We saw * Dry point avalanches on north aspects * Large crowns at upper elevations of all aspects * 75cm of fresh snow fall and significant storm slabs * Ski pen was between 10 and 35cm deep on skin track * Signs of a strong se and sw wind for packed pow in sheltered trees and significant wind effect on open terrain * Small convex slopes and pillows that were surprisingly supported and well bonded for the initial conditions, but may become problematic with the last storm cycle * Sloughing on steeper terrain in trees * Serious early season terrain traps * Significant sun effected variable snow on east aspects. Felt temps between -5 to 2 * Short days as we pass the winter solstice * Conflicting reports on Highway blasting times and closures Conditions felt surprisingly stable in conservative terrain. Great low angle pow surfing with an even mix of clear calm skies and stormy conditions. Unstructured terrain, overhead hazards, and wide spaced trees will need time to stabilize. Good conditions for hikes with turns only being a bonus
