Weather

Overcast, 2" snow prior night

Snowpack

Soft but felt consistent. No whooping, but not surprising, seeing that it released from the ground.

Avalanche

Approximately 12-18" deep, east aspect. Fracture line from ski tip to crown and area about 50' across slid. Bed surface was down pretty much to ground. I was about 100' below treeline. No evidence of wind loading. I ran into some people on the north side of Dry Gulch who stated that they were experiencing whoomping in multiple areas on the south facing aspect below the ridge that runs west to the Citadel. They (and I) felt that the avalanche risk ratings were too low for the conditions.
