3" of snow 36 hrs. before the trip with SW winds 20-30/G70 in the last 16 hrs. Increasing clouds before the next system.
Snowpack
Recently deposited snow on N aspects is sitting on very weak snowpack. The upper 10-15 cm wind transported snow at the top of the snowpack is reactive with shallow cracks propagating to ~10m out when transitioning from N to NW aspect. Although the snow cover is still too thin to propagate cracks beyond specific terrain features, it is weak enough for small to step down and carry surprisingly large volume. See snowpit for more details. I did not noticed and signs of instability on east aspect > TL. Blow TL, the snowpack is about 45-60 cm and too weak to support a skier. However, it lack a slab to generate avalanches.
