Sunny / partly cloudy, gradually warming but cold wind at the peak. Maybe 35-40 degrees
Snowpack
Fresh snow over the last several days , was getting crusty from Wind at the top, was still nice and soft up high on the descent , but not super deep, got heavy and dense/wet at the bottom.
Avalanche
Didnt notice any slide or roller balls or sluffing until I got to the bottom and looked up and saw the whole crown of the cornice had slid! Doesnt look like it was very deep or fast but couldve definitely been a problem had I been caught. Shouldve known better than to ski a south facing slope so late in the day but got too comfortable with this terrain I guess. Lesson learned.
