Skinned across the bottom of Cleavage Bowl at about 1:30 pm today. No visual sign of any slides in the bowl, and we thought briefly about skinning up it , but didn’t feel great about the lack of visibility of the start zone and that there was widespread evidence of a storm layer that was sliding on steep rolls. Instead, we skied up the ridge to the west of Stadium Gully Left. Mainly light snow with a touch of wind effect as we gained elevation to 1550m. It was easy to trigger small slabs on steep convexities. There was a consistent density change 20cm deep that the slabs were sliding on. When returning at 2:20 PM to Home Run through the bottom of Cleavage Bowl, we realized that a large portion of the bowl had slid on the 20cm layer, and run through the trees. We couldn’t see tracks coming out of the avalanche, and couldn’t see the start zone with the cloud and snow. We suspected that it had run naturally and hoped that nobody had dropped in from the top and triggered it. Switched beacon to receive to check that there was no one buried in the deposit zone. No evidence of burial within range of the beacon.
