Snowpack

Looked at and skied a variety of terrain and aspects. The southern aspects around Gothic have around 50cm of snow with 10 cm of facets at the ground and a weak mid pack. The cold temps seem to be weakening this shallow mid pack. Surface hoar is not as prolific on the southern aspects. On the northern aspects large surface hoar and lots of surface facets have been developing which makes for good noisy pow skiing. There is about 20cm of depth hoar and compression tests are still failing at the ground moderate/hard. Lots of old avalanche activity is visible on snodgrass. The average snow depth is approx 70cm with a weakening mid pack. After crashing hard one of the skiers felt the snowpack collapse and "woomph" mid way down snodgrass.
