Snowpack

Skied far skiers left side of Coney's today under cloudy skis with intermittent snow showers. Light winds from the NW blowing down valley. New snow totals around 6" of light density, non slabby snow. Found a generally very weak snowpack with a four finger slab between the new snow and the old, rotten 3mm facets on the ground. There was an eroding crust above the facets, though it was very weak as well. Got lots of cracking and collapsing with propagation of up to 20 meters. On slopes right at 30 degrees, no cracks became avalanches. We got very easy extended column test results failing above and below the weak crust on top of basel facets. ECTPV Q1 SP as well as repeatable easy shovel tilt tests failing both 5cm deep in the new snow and 15cm deep. These were both Q1 sheers.
