Weather

Broken clouds with calm winds increasing to light south west winds by 3pm at Telluride. On the drive home over Red Mountain Pass at 5pm SW winds were effectively loading north and east-facing terrain.

Snowpack

Deep light snow with very little wind affect settled quickly at all elevations with warm temperatures and periods of sun. Surfaces were wet below treeline on all but northerly aspects.

Avalanche

One large natural wind slab avalanche that likely ran last night (3/14). It was in steep terrain, above treeline and it broke 3 to 4 feet deep and was a large and destructive avalanche. This avalanche likely ran on a small faceted layer (3/9) below last weeks wind slab. Many small loose wet avalanches on east to south to west aspects.
