Got out for a sunrise morning tour to poke around the alpine at Hankin and beat the crowds (the NW is getting busy!). No new avalanche activity in the last 24 hours. A recent(ish) windslab popped on cardiac couloir. many windslabs spread throughout the alpine on most easterly slopes. NW aspect slopes have plenty of cross loading in gullies and micro terrain features. Testing some cross loaded micro terrain features we had some Sudden planar propagation from ski stomps when undercut by a skin track. It was a beauty day above the sea of clouds!

On a 35 degree NW convexity at 1490m in cabin bowl. Height of snow (HS) 140cm December 6th rain crust is down 80cm, November crust was down 130 Results: Compression test: moderate (CTM12), sudden planar failing on the December 6th crust at the upper facet interface. (80cm) Extended Column: Moderate (ECTP16) sudden planar at a storm interface 40cm down. Hard (ECTP28) resistant planar at facet / raincrust interface 80 down.
