Saw this large recent avalanche on a crossloaded SE facing slope east of Sparwood today. We suspect it occurred in the last 36 hrs when we had new snow and strong winds. This is a reminder that during periods of elevated avalanche hazard, deep persistent avalanches are still possible in shallow snowpack areas. Today we had no new snow, partly cloudy skies, and boot top cream cheezy riding. There was not enough sun to have loose wet avalanches on south facing terrain, but the best quality riding was still on north facing terrain. Blowing snow from the north west was seen at mountain tops today, we steered clear of alpine start zones.
