This sled is not an ambi-turner, I only turn left

Today we investigated our persistent weak layers at Harold Price. We found both! The early January facet layer is 60-80cm below the surface, and the mid January surface hoar is 35cm below the surface. These layers produced propagating Extended Column Test (ECT) results in the hard range and resistant planar Compression Test (CT) results in the moderate to hard ranges on a SW facing slope at 1560m. These results show that these weak layers are active and would be able to be triggered by moderate or heavy loads up to 80cm deep. What did this mean for us? We avoided very steep slopes, and also avoided grouping up in avalanche paths on our sleds as this would be a heavy load that could trigger avalanches. We stayed well back from these large cornices as this would also be a heavy load on a slope should it fail! The day was cold and clear so we had good views of the whole area. We saw no new avalanches, and surface conditions were variable.
