Snowpack

20cm of fresh on a weak faceted layer, easily sluffing or breaking in small slabs where it was wind affected. 40cm deep was another very weak and crumbly facet layer from the Jan 12 rain crust. everything deeper than 40cm was well consolidated with some faceting. The top 20cm fractured with almost no effort, and the next 20cm fractured after 8 elbow taps on an isolated column test. The top 40cm altogether propagated very easily on an extended column test after about 4-5 elbow taps. It seems very likely to slide 40cm deep on anything greater than 30 degrees and convex. The tests were done on a 30 degree slope in open trees on the SW aspect.
